Every year, about half a million

The count has stayed between about 490,000 and 540,000 a year since 2014, except 2020. What changed is the price: fines issued went from $37.8M in 2017 to $53.7M in 2025.

A few drivers get most of them

278,890 different license plates got at least one street cleaning ticket in 2025. One in six of them, 46,951 vehicles, got three or more, and those vehicles got 48% of all the tickets. 18,272 got five or more; 4,137 got ten or more. Counts are per plate, computed on DataSF's servers; we never downloaded or stored a plate number. The highest single count, about 2,000, is almost certainly a placeholder for an unreadable or missing plate, not one car.
