$105

The fine for parking during street cleaning, since July 1, 2026.

21 days

To contest it, from the date it was issued (or the first courtesy notice). Do not pay if you want to contest.

+$45, +$63

Late penalties after the first and second payment due dates.

What it costs

The fine is $105 (Transportation Code Division I, Section 7.2.22, parked during scheduled street cleaning hours), under the SFMTA fees and fines schedule effective July 1, 2026. Pay late and the same schedule adds $45 after the first payment due date and $63 after the second, plus a $45 special collection fee after the second due date (rising to $50, $69 and $47 on July 1, 2027). Unpaid tickets go to the DMV, and you then have to pay them to renew your registration. Paying by card online costs an extra $2.00 or 2.15%, whichever is more; paying by e-check does not (SFMTA citations page).

How to pay

  • Online: the SFMTA citation portal, with same-day posting and a receipt.
  • By phone: 415-701-3099 or 800-531-7357.
  • In person: SFMTA Customer Service Center, 11 South Van Ness Avenue, Monday to Friday, 8 AM to 5 PM, closed federal holidays.
  • By mail: a check or money order payable to SFMTA with the citation number on it, to the same address.
  • Can't pay it all at once? SFMTA has a payment plan.

SFMTA warns about texts and emails demanding payment for "delinquent" citations. Read their fraud alert and pay only through the official portal.

How to contest it

You have 21 days to protest, counted from the date the ticket was issued or from the first courtesy notice, and SFMTA will not consider a protest after that. Do not pay a ticket you want to contest. Start on the SFMTA contest page; if the first review goes against you, you can request an administrative hearing.

Worth checking before you contest: whether the posted sign on that block matched the time on the ticket, whether the date was a city holiday, and whether the side of the street on the ticket is the side you were parked on. Our ticket checker does the first two for any address and time. Our street sweeping map shows the schedule for each side of every block, from the city's own data. Photograph the sign; the sign is what counts.

Make it the last one

San Francisco wrote 531,375 street cleaning tickets in 2025, more than any other kind of parking ticket. 95% were written on weekdays, and 72% before 10 AM. See the 2025 ticket data.

Find your curb, then forget about it

Look up the exact side of the street you park on, save it, and add the next sweeps to your calendar with a one-hour reminder.
